Off-stream pond construction
Off-stream pond construction and design permits control of the water entering the pond and therefore reduces the rate of siltation. With well designed water control structures, it is also possible to shut off the stream supply altogether to allow pollutants to bypass the pond if the need arises.
These days, an off-stream pond is the only type of stream-fed pond that the Environment Agency will be inclined to permit. Construction of an off-stream (stream-fed) pond invariably requires approval from the Environment Agency.
