Swimming pond construction
A swimming pool masquerading as a pond can be integrated into the garden landscape much more sympathetically than a standard swimming pool. To that extent, a swimming pond can be a major and attractive addition to the garden.
Why is it then that the majority of these ponds appear to be designed along the rectilinear lines of a conventional swimming pool with attendant decking? Part of the answer to that is, of course, cost allied to a lack of imagination. A swimming pond typically costs about as much to build as a conventional swimming pool, so to enlarge it sufficiently to have a good length of swimming area in, say, an L-shape in the centre of a large oval pond, has a significant effect on the cost.
Swimming ponds ostensibly rely on the age-old principles of reed-bed filtration. However, we have yet to see one solely reliant on reed-bed filtration - there is usually a small but effective filtration unit working away in some hidden location close to the pond. The plants in the "regeneration zone" are there more for form's sake than their contribution to good water quality. Usually, the substrate of gravel, in which the plants are growing, is where the beneficial bacterial action is taking place. A gravel bed filtration system, in fact - along with all the maintenance that this type of system inevitably demands.
If you are considering a new swimming pond, please contact us to discuss the possibilities offered by your garden to create a truly integrated aquatic feature that just happens to be suitable for swimming - a true swimming pond - a pond made for swimming in.
Swimming pool conversion to pond or swimming pond
We convert existing ponds to swimming ponds using either true reed-bed filtration or, not beating about the bush, dedicated swimming pond filtration systems made in Germany. We are always happy to convert an existing outdoor swimming pool into a pond (or a swimming pond) along with any attendant landscaping works required to massage the ex-pool into the surrounding landscape.
